Terra Incognito

Sometimes the angels cast doubt on my ability to flow

Like a mountain stream cascading over basalt cliffs

Which have stood since the dawn of time

They echo tones in long forgotten tongues

Not spoken since the days when this land

And I were both young and unrestrained

In the days before the breath of life began

And when the fiery moon still filled half the sky

She cools and retreats and lengthens the days

Yet still the days seem to pass ever more swiftly

And plans once born in the exuberance of youth

Have grown into monsters

Demanding ever more of my attention

So I find myself in reverie atop the mountains

Where eagles soar across an endless sky

And the streams cascade over basalt cliffs

Which have stood since the dawn of time
